How to play

How to play Getaway (Bhabhi)

The whole pack is dealt out. Play goes anticlockwise.
Whoever holds the Ace of Spades starts. On the first trick everyone plays a spade if they can.
You must follow the suit that was led. If everyone does, the cards are discarded and the highest card leads next.
Can’t follow suit? Play any card — a thulla. The trick stops at once, and whoever played the highest card of the led suit picks up the whole trick.
Run out of cards and you’ve got away. The last player left holding cards is the Bhabhi.

Tips & tricks

Getaway tips: how not to be the Bhabhi

Get rid of high cards early. A King or Ace in a suit others are running out of is the card most likely to pick up a thulla later.
Void a suit. Running out of one suit lets you play a thulla — the best way to hand a pile of cards to someone else.
Track the suits. Notice who couldn’t follow suit — they’re the players ready to thulla you.
Lead low in long suits. Leading a suit many players still hold usually clears a safe trick.
Watch your last card. If your last card wins a full trick, you draw a card from the waste pile and have to lead it.
